THE CALL THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING

THE CALL THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING

The machine screamed louder.

Samuel’s tiny body jerked slightly.

“His blood pressure is crashing!”

The doctor stepped back.

“No… no, this wasn’t supposed to happen…”

Panic filled the room.

“Stabilize him! NOW!” he yelled.

OUTSIDE

Nneoma stood up immediately.

“What’s going on?” she demanded as she saw the sudden movement inside.

Her husband frowned. “Why are they stopping?”

Seconds later, the surgery room door BURST open.

A nurse rushed out.

“We have a problem!” she said urgently.

“What problem?” Nneoma snapped. “Fix it! Do whatever you have to do!”

The nurse looked at her in disbelief.

“This child might not survive the procedure!”

Nneoma’s face hardened.

“I don’t care. Save my son. That’s all that matters.”

The nurse stepped back, shocked.

“You’re talking about a human being!”

But Nneoma turned her face away coldly.

MEANWHILE… ON THE ROAD

Miriam sped through traffic, her hands gripping the steering wheel tightly.

Her mind was racing.

Her chest felt heavy.

Then suddenly—

Her phone rang.

Unknown number.

She picked it up immediately.

“Hello?!”

A shaky voice responded.

“Are you… Samuel’s mother?”

Miriam’s heart stopped.

“Yes! YES! Where is my son?!”

There was a pause.

Then the voice said—

“Madam… you need to come to City Hospital… immediately.”

Miriam’s world went silent.

Her grip loosened.

Her breath caught in her throat.

“What… what happened to my son?”

The line went quiet for a second.

Then—

“They’re trying to take his organs.”

BACK IN THE OPERATING ROOM

The doctor was sweating now.

Samuel’s condition was deteriorating rapidly.

“This child won’t make it!” the nurse cried.

The doctor looked at the boy again.

This time… not as money.

But as someone’s child.

Someone who was loved.

Someone who trusted him.

His hands dropped.

“I can’t do this…”

“What?” the nurse said.

“I said I CAN’T DO THIS!” he shouted, stepping away.

He ripped off his gloves.

“Prepare to stabilize him. We’re stopping the operation NOW.”
